Boone Memorial Health recently recognized Kaylyn Mareske and Adam Martin as recipients of the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. Surrounded by colleagues, hospital leadership and loved ones, Kaylyn and Adam were honored for the compassion, dedication and exceptional care they provide to their patients.
The DAISY Award is an international recognition program that celebrates nurses who go above and beyond to make a meaningful difference in the lives of patients and their families. Recipients are nominated through stories that highlight their clinical excellence, kindness and commitment to delivering extraordinary care.
Kaylyn was selected from the Clinic nominees for the positive impact she makes through her work and the compassion she shows those entrusted to her care.
In Pediatric, Kaylyn helps parents understand each stage of their child’s growth and development. She provides education on milestones, nutrition, height, weight and BMI, while also supporting new and experienced parents with concerns such as breastfeeding, postpartum care and medication administration. Kaylyn also emphasizes important safety practices for children of all ages, including safe sleep, car seat safety, firearm safety, ATV and bicycle safety and water safety.
Her care extends beyond a child’s immediate health needs. Kaylyn works to ensure young patients have the support and resources they need to succeed in school. As they grow into teenagers and young adults, she encourages them to pursue their interests and provides guidance to help them navigate the transition into adulthood. She also serves as a trusted resource for parents and guardians who contact the clinic with health-related questions or concerns.
Throughout the Boone Danville Clinic, Kaylyn supports clinical staff and providers by helping ensure they have the tools needed to deliver patient-centered care. Her goal is for every patient, not only those receiving pediatric care, to feel confident trusting BMH with their health for years to come, whether they are seeking primary care or one of the many specialty services available.

Her incredible knowledge of pediatric medicine, experience and kindness is evident in the care she provides. Adam was selected from the Emergency Department nominees in recognition of his dedication to patients and his ability to provide compassionate care during some of their most difficult and uncertain moments.
Adam primarily serves as a day-shift charge nurse in the Emergency Department while also providing bedside care whenever needed. In his leadership role, he helps oversee the care provided by the nursing team while remaining attentive to the needs of patients and their families.
Along with delivering skilled emergency care, Adam believes laughter can bring comfort during a stressful experience. He enjoys helping patients and their loved ones smile, easing the weight of a difficult day and making their time in the Emergency Department feel a little less overwhelming.
“Adam’s many years of multifaceted experience, combined with his unwavering dedication to emergency nursing, have made him a trusted leader and anchor for our team. Whether serving as charge nurse or supporting his colleagues at the bedside, he consistently demonstrates professionalism, clinical excellence and a deep commitment to providing outstanding care to our patients,” said Brian Keith, Director of Emergency Department Nursing and Trauma Services.
“Adam is someone who does things for others quietly, without ever looking for recognition. He genuinely cares about people, and while he may spend most of his time making his coworkers and patients laugh, underneath the jokes is a caring and generous person. The kindness he shows when no one is watching is exactly what makes him so deserving of the DAISY Award,” said Natosha Watts, Clinical Coordinator of Emergency Services.
