About BMH

Boone Memorial Health (BMH) strives to supply a comprehensive range of inpatient and outpatient services, including prevention, guidance, diagnosis, treatment, restoration, rehabilitation, and other efforts to enable patients to lead healthy, productive lives.

Boone Memorial Hospital, Inc. (d/b/a Boone Memorial Health) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit health care system based in Madison, WV, which primarily serves patients across Boone, Lincoln, Logan, and southern Kanawha counties. Boone Memorial Health includes a critical access hospital with a 25-bed inpatient unit, Level IV Trauma Center, and Black Lung Center; two rural health clinics with two expansion locations; and a substance and mental health treatment program. In addition, BMH offers several specialty practices and ancillary services at our locations throughout Boone County.

In carrying out its programs, BMH recognizes its responsibility to make services available to all persons who can benefit from them and to provide these in an economical manner in compliance with high professional standards. All programs and services of BMH are used routinely by all without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, age, national origin, or handicap.

The hospital further recognizes its responsibility to develop an organizational environment in which physicians, employees, volunteers, and other individuals constituting its staff are stimulated to high standards of performance and can find maximum satisfaction, achievement, and opportunity. As an equal opportunity employer, it will not permit discrimination because of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, age, national origin, or handicap.

First-time visitors to BMH are often surprised by the depth and sophistication of our hospital’s clinical offerings.

Notably, BMH was one of the first hospitals in the state to implement electronic health records long before federal deadlines. BMH boasts a fully digital radiology department, a full-time nuclear medicine program, and a technologically advanced cardiac rehab program.

Designated as a level IV trauma center, Boone Memorial’s emergency department has implemented a sophisticated information system to enhance patient care, safety, communication and processes; is up to date on both advanced cardiac life support and pediatric advanced life support and has an excellent stroke team. In addition, the BMH Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine Center offers physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and athletic education.

BMH has a Black Lung Center, the Grace Anne Dorney Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program, a state-of-the-art Surgery Center, 25 large, private patient rooms, and three off-campus rural health clinics; Family Medical Center Walk-In Clinic, Comfort Medical Clinic, and BMH Medical Clinic. In addition, the hospital now offers specialized services such as orthopedics, psychiatry, and dermatology.

However, the services, education and outreach that BMH provides to others besides patients are a large part of what makes the hospital such a crucial part of the fabric of our community.

The BMH laboratory department, which is accredited by the College of American Pathologists, serves as a clinical teaching site for both Southern West Virginia Community College, Boone County Career, and Technical Center phlebotomy classes. The pharmacy department offers community presentations on various health issues such as the dangers of drug interactions and the effects of caffeine, while the 40+ volunteers of the BMH Auxiliary provide support services both inside and outside the hospital walls.

The hospital regularly hosts unique educational and community events such as Food and Toy Drives, an annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner, Go Red for Women campaign events, an annual drive-thru flu shot clinic and Veteran’s Day tribute, Blood Drives, lunch and learn health education sessions, and an annual health fair, to name a few.

While the community visionaries and hospital leadership of 1964 likely could not have pictured the BMH of today, we are confident that we are living up to all that they imagined.
