Boone Memorial Health is celebrating a milestone in its surgical services program after completing more than 200 robotic-assisted surgeries using Intuitive’s da Vinci 5 surgical system. The team has performed 205 cases, reflecting the continued growth of advanced surgical care close to home.

BMH was among the first hospitals in West Virginia to acquire the da Vinci 5, expanding access to advanced surgical care close to home. The system supports minimally invasive procedures and gives patients access to surgical care that may help them return to their daily activities sooner.

The da Vinci 5 serves as an advanced tool that enhances the surgeon’s dexterity and visual capabilities. During each procedure, the surgeon uses a specially designed console to control and guide every precise movement of the surgical instruments. The surgeon remains in control throughout the operation.

For patients, robotic-assisted surgery can offer benefits such as smaller incisions, less pain and scarring, shorter hospital stays, and faster recovery. The appropriate surgical approach depends on each patient’s individual needs and the procedure being performed.

BMH’s General Surgery team uses the da Vinci 5 to perform procedures including cholecystectomy, or gallbladder removal, and hernia repair. Access to this technology allows patients to receive advanced surgical care while remaining close to their families and support systems.

Reaching this milestone represents the dedication and teamwork of BMH’s surgeons, anesthesia providers, nurses, surgical technologists, and support staff. Their work helps make the continued growth of the hospital’s surgical services possible.

As Boone Memorial Health celebrates more than 200 robotic-assisted procedures, its focus remains on expanding access to high-quality care and bringing advanced surgical options home to the communities it serves.
