WV DUI Safety & Treatment Program

BMH Brighter Futures is an authorized provider of the West Virginia DUI Safety & Treatment Program as a means of helping eligible individuals complete DMV requirements after a DUI conviction. Successful completion may allow license reinstatement, pending WV DMV approval.

The Brighter Futures DUI Safety and Treatment Program promotes public safety, supports behavioral change, and helps participants meet legal requirements while addressing substance use contributing to impaired driving.

Here are a few quick facts about the program:
  • New groups start year-round, every 7 weeks
  • Classes can be completed in-person, hybrid, or virtually to reduce transportation barriers and increase accessibility when clinically appropriate
  • All services provided by licensed, credentialed clinicians.

You may qualify if you:
• Have a WV DUI conviction with court or DMV referral
• Complete screening and assessment
• Are 18 or older
Placement in the program is based on screening and DMV referral:
Level I – Education
18 hours (typically 6 weekly classes)
Level II – Treatment
18 hours education + 6 hours therapy
Level III – Intensive Treatment
18 hours education + 12 or more therapy hours
Classes are held on Tuesdays:
  • Therapy (Levels II & III): 1–2 p.m.
  • Safety Education: 2–5 p.m.
Programs run in 6-week sessions with a one-week break.

To enroll in the program:

Should you need to request a copy of your driving records from the DMV, please click here. There is a $13 fee for records, or you can sign a Release of Information form for our staff to get a copy of your records for FREE.

Upon successful completion:
  • Participants receive a Completion Certificate
  • Completion status is reported directly to the WV DMV
  • Additional referrals for therapy or recovery support may be provided if clinically indicated
