Boone Memorial Health is proud to announce the launch of its GROWS (Guided Recovery through Opportunity and Workforce Support) program, which officially began on March 19, 2026. The program supports individuals working towards recovery by providing structured workforce training, hands-on experience, and skill development that prepares participants for long-term employment and independence.

The 13-week program combines real-world job paid experience with opportunities for personal and professional growth. Participants build essential workplace skills, such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and customer service, while gaining confidence and stability.

“This program is about creating opportunity and helping people move forward with purpose,” said Gina Peck, Director of Brighter Futures. “We are investing in people and giving them the tools to succeed in the workplace and beyond.”

Through BMH GROWS, participants receive hands-on experience at Boone Memorial Health’s farmers market and greenhouse, Market on Main. Activities may include retail operations, gardening, and greenhouse work, as well as event planning and setup. In addition to on-site experience, participants also engage in structured, classroom-based learning to further support their development.

“Workforce reintegration and development are crucial parts of the recovery journey, and too often they get left out,” said BMH President & Chief Executive Officer Virgil Underwood. “BMH GROWS is how we change that. When people in recovery have access to a real job, marketable skills, and meaningful support, we are not just helping one person. We are building a stronger, healthier workforce for the entire region.”

By combining recovery support with workforce training, BMH GROWS addresses a critical gap for individuals transitioning into employment. Boone Memorial Health remains committed to strengthening the local workforce and expanding opportunities across Southern West Virginia.

This program was made possible through grant funding from the Health Resources and Services Administration’s (HRSA) Rural Communities Opioid Response Program. BMH extends its sincere gratitude to HRSA for its generous funding support.
