Boone Memorial Health is pleased to be one the first hospitals in West Virginia and the only hospital in our region to be utilizing the newest, most advanced and integrated version of Intuitive’s minimally invasive, robotic-assisted surgery technology – the Da Vinci 5.

The Da Vinci 5 serves as an advanced tool, enhancing the physical dexterity and visual capabilities of the surgeon, who uses a specially designed console to control and guide every precise movement the equipment makes. For patients, surgeries using the Da Vinci 5 can lead to smaller incisions, less pain and scarring, shorter hospital stays, and faster recovery so that you can get back to the things that matter most in your life.

Robotic-assisted surgeries at Boone Memorial Hospital are performed by Charles Lucente, MD, FACS. Dr. Lucente is now performing lap cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal) and hernia repair procedures using this highly advanced surgical system.

Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE) is a minimally invasive test performed at Boone Memorial Health by Casey Hager, MD, FACC.  Dr. Hager is board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiology, and Echocardiography.

Transesophageal Echocardiography is a specialized type of echocardiogram that provides detailed images of the heart by using an ultrasound probe inserted into the esophagus in a surgery suite.

Transesophageal Echocardiography is a test that can be used to:

  • Detect heart valve diseases (e.g., endocarditis, valve regurgitation, or stenosis)
  • Identify blood clots in the heart, especially in patients with atrial fibrillation
  • Evaluate congenital heart defects
  • Assess aortic diseases, such as aneurysms or dissections
  • To check for prosthetic heart valve function

​There are situations where a BMH primary care doctor can perform certain minor procedures in-office or in a surgery suite at the hospital. This saves patients time, energy, and the extra cost of seeing a referred surgeon, gynecologist, or dermatologist while maintaining continuity of care with your primary care provider who is thoroughly aware of your medical history.

Minor procedures can include:

  • Corticosteroid and Synvisc joint injections
  • Cryosurgery
  • Curettage and electrodessication
  • Cyst removal
  • External hemorrhoid removal
  • Foreign body removal (metal, glass, wood splinters, etc.)
