Boone Memorial Health is proud to announce that President and CEO Virgil Underwood has been named to Becker’s Hospital Review’s list of “240 Community Hospital CEOs to Know” for 2026.

The national recognition honors hospital leaders who demonstrate a strong commitment to their communities while guiding organizational growth, expanding access to essential healthcare services, and supporting the long-term success of their health systems.

Underwood has served as CEO of Boone Memorial Health since 2015. During his leadership, BMH has grown from a small rural hospital into a thriving regional health system serving thousands of individuals across four West Virginia counties. His tenure has included the opening of a new hospital facility, the development of multiple rural health clinics, and the expansion of behavioral health and community wellness services.
