Boone Memorial Health Board of Directors Elects Tony Hensley as Chair
Madison, W.Va. – James A. “Tony” Hensley, owner of Barker’s Hardware in Danville and Recorder for the Town of Danville, has been elected Chairperson of the Boone Memorial Health (BMH) Board of Directors. His term began on June 12. Hensley has served on the BMH Board of Directors since 2000 and has served as its Vice Chairperson since 2001.
“Tony has been an invaluable member of the BMH Family for more than 20 years,” said BMH Chief Executive Officer Virgil Underwood. “The institutional knowledge he brings to the position of Chairperson as a long-time member of the Board, paired with his business acumen and local government experience, uniquely positions our organization to continue our important work in expanding access to health care and eliminating health disparities through strategic growth and initiatives.”
In addition to actively managing his family-owned hardware business for several years, Hensley served as owner and president of Cameron Hardwood Management, Inc. from 1994 to 2020. He received his bachelor’s degree from Concord College and master’s degree from Duke University. Hensley is a lifelong Boone County resident.
“It is an incredible honor to lead the Board of Directors of an organization that means so much to the residents of our area,” said Hensley. “From providing the highest quality of care through investments in talent, technology, and facilities, to creating innovative solutions to improve the overall health of the communities we serve, Boone Memorial Health is truly making a difference. I am so proud to be part of the BMH Family as we embark on our next chapter.”
Hensley succeeds Robert L. “Bob” Brown, who has served as Board Chairperson since 2012. Brown will continue to serve on the Board of Directors as Vice Chairperson.
“For over 30 years, Bob has donated his time, treasure, and wisdom to the betterment of Boone Memorial Health,” said Underwood. “His leadership was instrumental in the construction of the new hospital facility in 2016, expansion of our geographical footprint, handling the immense challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic, our rebranding initiative, and much more. We are grateful that Bob will continue his service to BMH as Vice Chairperson of the Board of Directors.”
James A. “Jim” Gore was re-elected as Secretary of the Board of Directors. Gore has served on the Board of Directors since 2011. He worked for 22 years for Long Branch Energy and J.V. Services and served 8 years as County Administrator for the Boone County Commission.
