BCTC HOSA Students Deliver Gift Baskets to Boone Memorial Hospital Employees

Members of the Boone Career & Technical Center (BCTC) HOSA-Future Health Professionals Program delivered gift baskets and individual goodie bags to the Boone Memorial Hospital Laboratory, Inpatient Floor, Emergency Department and BMH Clinics (Medical Clinic-located beside the Madison Post Office; Medical Clinic-located in Comfort, WV and BMH Family Medical Center Walk-in Clinic-located across from the Madison Animal Hospital).

"Both my morning and afternoon HOSA students sold snacks during their daily 10-minute break throughout the month of October to raise money for the Christmas Baskets and goodie bags," said Loretta Thompson, RN - WV HOSA State Advisor. "Altogether, they raised $1063."

Thompson and five seniors; Olivia Clark, Allie Jarrell, Makiya Kirk, Madison Christian, and Nichelle Smith delivered the gifts.

"All five ladies will be 2022 graduates from Scott High and/or Sherman High and will have successfully completed the BCTC Health Science Certified Nursing Assistant Program," said Thompson.

In addition to Boone Memorial Hospital/BMH Clinics, HOSA donated baskets to Hillcrest Nursing Home, the Boone County Health Department, Family Care, and Southern WV Health System (formerly Madison Medical).

"We wanted to thank our local healthcare heroes who have bravely worked throughout the COVID pandemic," explained Thompson.

"I'm very proud of our students. Not only did they organize the food basket project, they also conducted a school-wide food drive for the Union Mission and collected 290 pounds of potatoes and over 750 non-perishable/canned food items. We delivered the items to Southridge Walmart today during the live broadcast being held by WQBE and Electric 102."

"We commend Boone County HOSA students for their generosity," said BMH Chief Executive Officer, Virgil Underwood. "Our employees have continued to show resilience and unwavering dedication throughout this pandemic. It's great they were recognized. We truly appreciate the kind gesture."
