Boone Memorial Hospital receives 5-star rating for patient experience

Boone Memorial Hospital in Madison, West Virginia received a 5-star rating, the highest achievement level possible, from CMS (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services) for patient experience.

5-star rating reflects the hard work and commitment of our caregivers who have dedicated their lives to helping others."

Boone Memorial is one of only four hospitals in the State of West Virginia to have received 5-star status. It places Boone Memorial at the top of 3,478 hospitals surveyed nationwide with only 266 receiving a 5-star rating.

CMS' star rating scores hospitals on a one-to-five-star scale based on the 10 publicly reported measures in the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey, which assesses patient experiences.

The 10 categories include; Communication with nurses, Communication with doctors, Responsiveness of hospital staff, Communication about medicines, Discharge information, Care transition, Cleanliness of hospital environment, Quietness of environment, Hospital rating and Recommended the hospital.

Based on the latest patient experience star ratings, the following list shows how many hospitals received each star rating in the United States:

- Five Star Rating (266 hospitals)

- Four Star Rating (1,120 hospitals)

- Three Star Rating (1,479 hospitals)

- Two Star Rating (528 hospitals)

- One Star Rating (85 hospitals)

CMS publishes HCAHPS star ratings to help patients choose a hospital based on patient experience. The star rating encourages hospitals to strive to continuously improve the patient experience and quality of care delivered to all patients.
