On June 26th at the Annual Boone Memorial Hospital Employee Celebration, Becky Spears was awarded the first annual 2020 Robert “Bob” Brown Outstanding Service Award. Becky, who has been an employee of Boone Memorial for over 15 years, said she was shocked when her name was announced.

“I couldn’t believe it. I know so many employees here who are just as deserving. I was so honored to be chosen,” she said.
Becky is the hospital’s Dietary Director. Some of her duties include conducting routine patient nutritional screening, identifying nutritional concerns, implementing diet plans, providing nutritional education, managing a sanitary food service environment and specifying standards and procedures for food preparation.
“I also create work schedules, hold departmental in-services and training and develop our annual budget,” said Becky.

Becky attended college at Auburn University where she received training in nutrition and food service management. She is a member of the ANFP (Association of Nutrition and Food Service Professionals), AANC (American Association of Nutritional Consultants) and the National Restaurant Association. She is also an active volunteer in her church, her grandchildren's school activities and offers nutritional tips and healthy eating education to the community.
When Becky was asked what she liked most about her job, she said "building relationships."
"I love my coworkers and patients. The thing I like most about working at Boone Memorial Hospital is the friendships along with the compassion and care that is given to each patient," she said.

Becky was nominated by the Boone Memorial Executive Team. The introduction below, which was written by her direct supervisor, Angie Christian; Executive Director of Ancillary Services, was read by Chief Operating Officer, Mark Linville, prior to the announcement.
"Our Mission and Vision Statements at Boone Memorial Hospital include words like compassion, love, concern, service, and treating people like family. When we think of these words, the recipient of the first annual Bob Brown Outstanding Service Award certainly comes to mind.
Not only does this person consistently demonstrate our Mission and Vision at BMH, but this person is also very knowledgeable and experienced in the department. This person portrays a positive attitude and is always willing to embrace new initiatives, adapt to change, or do whatever is needed to overcome challenges.
This person is a team player and never hesitates to put the needs and consideration of other
co-workers first. In fact, it is not uncommon for this person to volunteer to work on holidays in the place of others in the department, allowing them to celebrate with their families.
This person is accommodating to special requests with short notice, takes great pride in work responsibilities, and remains calm in stressful situations. Being a patient advocate comes natural for this kind, pleasant, and caring individual, who is a true asset to Boone Memorial Hospital."
"It's our pleasure to announce Becky Spears, our Dietary Director, as the first annual Robert “Bob” Brown Outstanding Service Award – Employee of the Year recipient."
Congratulations Becky from your Boone Memorial family. Employees agree the award is "well-deserved."
