

Bazzil Goodman of Logan receives black lung benefits with help from BMH
Bazzil Goodman of Logan, WV spent 42 years in the mines. "I was underground the entire time," said Goodman. "I went in when I was 17 years old." Today, at age 66, Goodman is on oxygen 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. He was diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), which is a chronic inflammatory lung disease that causes obstructed airflow from the lungs. Over 200 people to participate in the BMH Healthy Lifestyle Program
On January 10th Boone Memorial Hospital held two informational sessions regarding its Healthy Lifestyle Program. Between the two sessions, one morning and one evening, over 160 people attended. In addition, over 50 people inquired by phone and have since signed up. Program Trainer, Kathy Hill, APRN, FNP-BC, was overwhelmed with the response. "Last year we had over 200 people as well, but it was our first year. This being our second year, I didn't expect this type of turn-out.


Logan Healthcare Foundation awards Boone Memorial Hospital grant to expand Pulmonary Services
The Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program at Boone Memorial Hospital received a $47,000 grant from the Logan Healthcare Foundation to expand services. Pulmonary rehabilitation helps to reduce symptoms, decrease disability, increase participation in physical and social activities, and improve the overall quality of life (QOL) for patients with chronic respiratory disease. Lindsay Brown receives first annual Rehab One, Ltd. Scholarship
Rehab One Ltd., a rehabilitation company that provides professional therapy and management services at Boone Memorial Hospital since 1998, has established The Rehab One Scholarship. This year's recipient, Lindsay Brown is a Therapy Technician in the Physical Therapy Department at Boone Memorial.
