Original hospital employee makes donation to new BMH facility

Former Boone Memorial Hospital employee Betsy White has donated $25,000 to the new Boone Memorial Hospital facility with a room in the radiology department to be named in honor of her family, particularly her late husband Doug and her late daughter Tira. Prior to BMH opening its doors in 1964, there was a tremendous amount of work to be done in setting up the facility to receive patients. Betsy White was the very first employee in the radiology department and came on board in 1963. “When I graduated high school, I knew that I wanted to work in the medical field,” she said. “Helping others is what appealed to me the most about that kind of work.” A 1957 graduate of Scott High School in Madiso

Stephens family honors wife, mother with naming of new BMH cafeteria

Paul Stephens and family have honored his late wife, Goldie D. Stephens with a donation to the new Boone Memorial Hospital. The generous gift will support the cafeteria in the new BMH facility and see it named in her honor as a plaque was mounted at the eatery’s entrance on December 8. “Goldie was the glue that held our family together for so many years,” said Paul Stephens of his late wife. “She continues to hold us together.” Stephens is semi-retired but still comes to the office of Stephens Auto Center in Danville every day where his son Richard oversees the operations of the business. Dr. Joseph Skeens cites community, BMH staff as inspiration for contribution

When Dr. Joseph Skeens pledged $50,000 to the radiology department of Boone Memorial Hospital last spring, his inspiration stemmed from his belief in the administration’s vision, the staff’s dedication and a need by the small communities surrounding the new facility. “When I came to West Virginia in 1993 and went to work for Charleston Area Medical Center, I became familiar with Boone Memorial and I have been working here in some capacity since then,” said Skeens. “It has always been one of my favorite hospitals. I thought the people in the community were special, the institution was special and I was very pleased when an opportunity came to be here on a more regular basis in 2008.” Skeens c
