Boone Memorial Health held a Black Lung Outreach in Gilbert, WV on Friday, January 27, to help miners complete their federal black lung claims. The event was held  at the Larry Joe Harless Community Center in Gilbert, WV.

“Those who were unable to attend the outreach can contact us,” said Willie Carte, Director of the BMH Black Lung Center. “We can help you file both federal and state claims.”

In addition to filing claims, The BMH Black Lung Center performs B-Read chest x-rays (specific to black lung), spirometry testing to determine breathing capacity, EKG’s, exercise stress tests, and a complete physical by a physician. The completion of claims application and the initial testing, as described above, are completely free to the miner.
