Compassionate, intelligent and friendly are just a few of the many words used to describe the March 2009 Employee of the Month at Boone Memorial Hospital. Jerry Quisenberry who currently resides in Madison has been a PA (Physician Assistant) at Boone Memorial for nearly 5 years.

“Jerry is very caring. He is so knowledgeable and loves to teach. He’s great about explaining terms so his patients can understand them. Rather than using medical jargon he makes things easy to understand. The patients really like him,” said Rose Isenberg, LPN, who works closely with Jerry.

Jerry began his career at BMH in the Emergency Room and the Rural Health Clinic. “I still work both areas,” he said. “I also work one day a week at the BMH Medical Clinic,” he added.

Jerry graduated from Chapmanville High School in 1994 and attended SWVCC (Southern West Virginia Community & Technical College) shortly thereafter.  “I actually graduated as a Lab Tech,” said Jerry. “I had to shadow some Physician Assistants when I worked at Thomas and I thought the work they did was so interesting. So…I only worked one summer as a Lab Tech and decided to attend Marshall University to get my pre-requisites for PA School. I attended Mountain State University and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Physician Assistant Studies in 2000.”

“Jerry finished at the top of his class,” said Administrator Tommy Mullins. “He is an excellent PA and we are glad he is here,” added Mullins.

The BMH community at-large is also extremely thankful for Jerry.

“He is a kind, compassionate, smart guy that relates well to his patients. I think people like the fact that Jerry is a local guy. He is extremely well-liked by staff and patients alike,” said friend and co-worker Mike Grimes, PA at BMH.

“Jerry is a very good employee. He is well liked by everyone,” added Kevin Hill, PA at BMH.

Jerry enjoys playing golf, basketball and likes woodworking and riding 4-wheelers. He has been married to Melanie (Maiden name: Wilson) since August 2002.  “She and I have been together since 1994,” said Jerry. “She is from Chapmanville,” he added. Jerry and Melanie have two gorgeous twins, born this past December, 2008; a girl, Ella and boy, Bryce.

Jerry is very happy to work at BMH. “I honestly wanted to come back home…literally,” he laughed. “I was actually born right here at Boone Memorial Hospital,” said Jerry. He grew up toward Rt. 17, located about 15 minutes from Madison. “The old way to Logan,” explained Jerry. “I actually went to Sharples High School but it closed my senior year so I ended up graduating from Chapmanville High School.

“BMH really is like home to me. I like the family, community atmosphere,” he said. Jerry is the Grandson of Avenelle Quisenberry of Ottawa and his parents Clark and Ellen Quisenberry reside in Clothier.

Jerry was honored with a designated parking space and free lunch for the entire month of March and a recognition plaque that is displayed in the front lobby at BMH. Congratulations Jerry! We are proud of you!
