Bassam Haffar, M.D. partners with Boone Memorial Hospital 

A popular and well-respected physician, Bassam Haffar, a Board Certified Gastroenterologist is now making visits to Boone Memorial Hospital the 1st, 3rd, and 4th Tuesday of each month. “If a 5th Tuesday falls in the month, I’ll come then too,” stated Haffar.

Dr. Haffar specializes in intestinal problems and will perform Endoscopies (EGD), also with dilatation, colonoscopies, and, if necessary, surgery at BMH.

“Dr. Haffer is a very kind-hearted individual and patients respond well to him,” said Alum Creek native, Debbie Quintrell, Haffer’s Office Manager.

“I’ve had jobs that have even paid more but it’s not always about the money. It’s about doing what you love. He’s the type of individual who sees things through. We have patients from all over. Everyone is so different and it makes the job exciting. I love it all,” Quintrell added. 

Haffar is well-qualified and respected. He has received many honors over the years including being named Outstanding Medical Graduate, ranking second of 250 graduates at Damascus University, Syria. In 1994 Haffar received a Certificate of Appreciation presented on behalf of the Board of Directors of the Logan Medical Foundation for significant contributions to the education program through the WV School of Osteopathic medicine. He also has several publications, one of which can be found in the Journal of Biological Chemistry.

Haffar resides in Charleston with his wife, Rima. They have four children; 2 boys and 2 girls. In his spare time, Haffar enjoys tennis, spending time with his children and wife, and travels to his home Country, Syria, once a year to visit his family.

When Haffar isn’t busy seeing patients at Boone Memorial Hospital you can find him at his office, located at 117, 7th Avenue in South Charleston. “We accept patients by referrals and most insurances are accepted,” said Quintrell. Haffar has performed the following procedures at various medical facilities: Endoscopy (also with dilatation), Colonoscopy, Flexible Sigmoidoscopy, Hemorrhoid Banding, Liver Biopsy, Capsule Endoscopy, PH Probe & Motility and Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP).
